Viewpoint and natural heritage in Thueyts in Ardèche

How to access the rock of Autureyre?

① From Rue Pouget in Thueyts, continue the street to the church of Saint Jean Baptiste. You can admire this building rebuilt in 1834 with its bell tower and tower The bell tower and tower, dating from 1691 and with 3 bells. Do not hesitate to pass the forecourt and discover inside several paintings and stained glass windows (restored by Balayn).

② At the end of the street, continue on your left, you enter the Rue Haute, then go past the convent of the Presentation of Mary. Continue your way out of the village to the bridge of the high street where you can see a black rock, the basalt that constitutes it comes from the volcano of Thueyts, the Gravenne, located in Prat.

③ After the bridge, continue to the crossroads and take the direction “Cros de Laval”. Once arrived (e)s at the entrance of the hamlet, follow the road that leaves on your right (gentle slope) until the start of Chemin Ferré (which in the past connected Thueyts to Montpezat-sous-Bauzon).

④ Take the old railway path to continue your route through the well shaded path through the chestnut trees (emblematic trees of the Ardèche, very prolific in the region). You will follow a relatively severe slope but no worries you will soon come back on a false flat going up to the road.

⑤ You arrive at a crossroads between the railway and the road where the prune trees are unveiled before your eyes. Go left towards the entrance of the undergrowth for 100 meters before taking the first path on the right. The track continues in the chestnut trees.

⑥ Then go under the high voltage line, until a heathland, you will find the rock of Autureyre at the top of the hill. We let you admire the panoramic view of this telluric high place and you imprint all its good energies.

Your return can be done by the same route (round trip therefore), at the junction of the White Cross, by the railway path taken on the outward.
