Jaujac, Ardèche

Opening : Friday 12 June 2026.

Continue exploring the exhibition with a panel discussion on how our relationship with living things has evolved since prehistoric times.

With photographer Guillaume Mazille, Valérie Molès, Head of Cultural, Educational and Scientific Outreach at Chauvet 2 and curator of the ‘Animal’ exhibition, and Philippe Fosse, palaeontologist and member of the Chauvet scientific team. Host: Sébastien Gayet.

The exhibition :
A source of food, beliefs, stories... animals fascinate human beings. And sometimes a bond is formed. The exhibition ‘Belles bêtes’ (Beautiful Beasts) recounts this encounter between animals and artists throughout the ages, presenting a dialogue between reproductions of prehistoric works, animal photographs by Guillaume Mazille and performances by artist Abraham Poincheval.
Separated by millennia but united by the same curiosity, prehistoric artists and those of today take a sensitive look at the animal world: attitudes, gazes and anatomical details reveal a deep understanding of living creatures.
At a time when biodiversity is more threatened than ever, take the time to visit an exhibition that connects you to wild animals!

An exhibition in partnership with the Cité de la Préhistoire and the Syndicat Mixte Espace de Restitution de la Grotte Chauvet.
