A walk starting from the village of Jaujac in the Ardèche with its Monteil and Échelette lookouts.

Starting in the heart of the picturesque village of Jaujac, this loop will take you to the spectacular site of the basaltic flows and its various lookouts (Monteil-Echelette).

Starting point at the Place du Champ de Mars in Jaujac.

① Pass in front of the tourist office and turn right. After 50 meters, you can see the St Bonnet square and fountain on your left.

② Follow the road that descends after the fountain and cross the Chastelas bridge.

③ After exiting the bridge, at the 🚩 “Le Chastelas” signpost, take the direction 🚩 “Thueyts, 11.3 km”, via 🚩 “Le Monteil, 1.5 km” to the right and follow the path that descends towards the bank along the Lignon.

④ Cross the so-called “Roman” bridge and take the calade. Above the road, a viewpoint will inform you about the volcanic eruption. Continue on the path to the hamlet of Monteil. Cross the hamlet to the Monteil signpost.

⑤ At Monteil, follow the direction 🚩”Jaujac/Neyrac les Bains, 8.7 km”, via Serangelier. The path crosses an old chestnut grove. Upon reaching the paved road, turn left to the 🚩 “Sérangelier” signpost.

⑥ At “Sérangelier”, follow the direction 🚩”Jaujac, 3.3 km” via “La Broussen 1.2 km”. Cross the road twice and after about 30m take the path on the left.

⑦ Here you are at La Broussen, follow 🚩 “Fabras, 4.7 km” via “Bonneval, 1.2 km”. Descend the calade that winds down to the Lignon. Cross the Echelette bridge and enjoy the view from the viewpoint.

⑧ Follow the RD5 to the right to the Bonneval signpost.

⑨ At Bonneval, follow 🚩 “Jaujac, 3.5 km” via “Larmande, 1 km”. Cross the road carefully and take the path on the left.

⑩ At Larmande, follow 🚩 “Jaujac, 2.2 km” and after 250m take the path that descends on the right and join the RD19.

⑪ Before the primary school, cross the pedestrian crossing and continue the path. Join the Place du Champ de Mars by the right along the church.

Road access and parking

From Aubenas, take the N102 to Lalevade d’Ardèche, then left on the D19 towards Jaujac. From the east or north, take the D5 after Neyrac-les-Bains from the N102.

Parking: At the entrance of the village and within the village (school, post office), several free parking spaces are available. Please note that on Tuesday and Friday mornings, the market days, parking on the square is prohibited.
