Via Domitius, a historic and heritage trail at Meyras in Ardèche
Opening : All year round, daily.
The Via Domitius has linked the village of Meyras to the spa town of Neyrac-les-Bains since Roman times. This cobbled path offers a lovely walk combining history and nature discovery.
A little history about the Via Domitius
The consul Domitius stopped off at Meyras with his troops before going to confront Vercingétorix and the Arvernes. The soldiers discovered the benefits of the waters at the foot of the Souilhol volcano, and the Roman road was named in honour of this war leader. The waters of Neyrac-les-Bains are renowned for their curative properties.
What is a calade? In Provence and Languedoc (but also in Ardèche), a calade is a cobbled, stone-paved road, often on a slope. So be prepared to be well shod when climbing the calades of the Ardèche.
