The Usson Painting

A film by Simone Lainé, telling the astonishing story of a 15th-century painting that lay forgotten for many years in a church in Auvergne.

Who could have imagined that this ‘Resurrection of Lazarus’, which remained hidden for nearly five centuries, might conceal another story?
It took art historian Claire Dechamps fifteen years of research to unravel the mystery of the painting, followed by three years of restoration to restore it to its former glory.
As the varnish wears away and the colours are reborn, the work gradually reveals an unexpected meaning, at the crossroads of the religious and the political.

A wonderful evening to discover not only an exceptional work of art, but also the stories of those who helped bring to light what it had to tell us.

In the presence of the director.
