Laulagnet chapel is a 19th-century religious building, discreetly nestled in a green setting. Dedicated to Notre-Dame, it stands out for its architectural sobriety and its roots in the local spiritual tradition.
Tucked away in the gentle hills of the Ardèche, not far from Jaujac and Saint-Cirgues-de-Prades, the chapel of Laulagnet - also known as Notre-Dame de l'Aulagnet - stands as a discreet reminder of rural piety in the 19thᵉ century. Built towards the end of that century, this modest structure, now the property of the Diocesan Association of Viviers, is part of a religious tradition firmly rooted in the area.
Far from being ostentatious, the chapel captivates visitors with the purity of its lines and the silent harmony of its surroundings. Surrounded by nature, it offers a place of meditation, punctuated only by birdsong and the rustle of the wind in the foliage.
Its interior houses a statue of Notre-Dame de Délivrance, once polychrome, whose restoration in the 1960s has given it an austere woody hue. Although the ornamentation is discreet, the symbolic charge is great. The chapel remains the site of an annual pilgrimage, celebrated every 16 August and attended by several hundred faithful. This fervent gathering brings the local community together around a shared faith, in the heart of a timeless landscape.
Both a modest sanctuary and a spiritual landmark, the Chapelle de Laulagnet embodies a little-known but precious part of the heritage of the Ardèche. It offers visitors a rare moment of serenity and immersion in a collective memory where the sacred is combined with the beauty of the place.
