Night-time walk to explore the starry skies of the Ardèche. Meet at 7 pm at the Col de la Barricaude; return at 11 pm.
An easy walk for the whole family: 4 km, 150 m elevation gain. Wear clothing suitable for the altitude. Please bring a head torch.
We’ll set off on our hike at the very end of the day and walk across the pastures to reach the watershed and our vantage point, which offers a 360°C panoramic view of the neighbouring valleys as well as an unobstructed view of the night sky. We’ll arrive in time to enjoy the sunset. Then we’ll let night fall whilst enjoying a country-style buffet featuring local produce, and get ready to gaze at the starry sky. We’ll learn to recognise the constellations, the visible planets and perhaps even a few shooting stars. On the way back, a lovely night-time atmosphere will accompany us, and we’ll listen with our ears to the sounds of the night.
Whether you’re a keen hiker, fascinated by the night sky or simply looking for a convivial evening, this night-time outing promises to awaken all your senses, whilst also prompting some philosophical reflection on our place in the universe.
