A city steeped in history where legend has it that the city owes its name to the sword of Charlemagne which he nicknamed "the Joyful" lost during a fight and found by a soldier. Charlemagne then had a castle built and appointed the valiant soldier master of the place.
The remains of the ramparts and the many small alleys and its vaulted passages invite you to stroll and discover the rich past of the city and its architectural heritage. Many artists and craftsmen have invested the place and invite you to push the doors of their workshops.
