Hiking from Fabras in the Ardèche and its hamlets

Discover the village of Fabras and its hamlets: the Chanareille-les Hivières . During this easy walk for the whole family, you will cross woods of holm oaks and chestnut trees.

The village is also labeled villes et villages fleuris (2 flowers). You can take a cultural break at the Château du Pin and visit the gardens labeled “remarkable garden” by the Ministry of Culture or discover the church of St-Pierre-aux-Liens (12th century).

Departure from the “INFO RANDO” sign, on the village square (parking of the multipurpose hall) in Fabras.

①When facing the “info rando” sign, follow the sign 🚩 “Prades, 3.7 km”. Take the path that climbs to your left at the back of the parking lot. You can then enjoy a beautiful view of the village of Fabras below. You will cross the chestnut woods until the road.

② At the intersection, turn right until the signpost 🚩 “les Soulhets”.

③ Follow the direction 🚩 “Prades, 3.7 km”, via 🚩 “Le Chambon, 1.4 km”. In the hamlet, pass to the left between the houses and go down the alley which continues as a paved road for about 300m.

④ Just after a stone barn, on the left side of the road, take the path on the left that crosses a green oak forest.

⑤ You are at Chamblon: follow the sign 🚩 “Fabras, 3.7 km”, via 🚩 “La Coste, 1.8 km”. Cross the stream and follow the path to the right, then the road, which goes up towards the village of Fabras.

⑥ You are at La Coste: follow the sign 🚩 “Fabras, 1.6 km”, via 🚩 “La chabanne, 0.1 km”.

⑦ You are at La Chabanne: follow the sign 🚩 “Château du Pin, 1.1 km / Fabras, 2.2 km”, via 🚩 “Nougeyrolles, 1.5 km”. At La Chabanne, you have the option to shorten your walk by returning to Fabras by going up to the left along the paved road, or continue to the Château du Pin (2.2 km). To do this, go down the RD 119 for about 200m and take the path on the right through the woods. Rejoin the RD119 which you will go up towards the castle. Take the first road on the right towards 🚩 “les Hivières” and 50m after, follow the path to the right.

⑧ To visit the Château du Pin, follow the path to the right. Otherwise, cross the small bridge, go straight, cross the hamlet of Hivières with its bread oven and continue your ascent.

⑨ You are at Nougeyrolles, follow the sign 🚩 “Fabras, 0.5 km” via 🚩 “Les soulhets, 1.8 km”. The path will lead you behind the church of Fabras. From there, return to the starting point.

Road access and parking

Aubenas, take the N102 to Lalevade d’Ardèche. At the exit of the village, turn left onto the D119 towards Fabras.
Thueyts, take the N102, cross Pont-de-Labeaume then turn right onto the D119 towards Fabras before entering Lalevade d’Ardèche.
