The Bolnaudak collective has made a speciality of writing plays based on collected documentary accounts. Two of the collective's artists, Laetitia Sadak and Nicolas Bole, have been living in Jaujac for 5 years now.
This play for three actors (Laetitia Sadak, Nicolas Bole and Delphine Bole) and a director (Margaux Borel) was born out of a long-term creative residency carried out in 2022 and 2023 in Manosque in one of the city's priority neighbourhoods.
For over a year, the artists used a variety of methods to get in touch with local residents and hear what they had to say, as well as their questions, fears and hopes about being forced to move as part of an urban renewal project. Open discussions during caf...és or aperitifs, workshops, evening events organised at the foot of the building, postcards dropped in letterboxes...
The aim was to collect both what is expressed in words and everything that is said in non-verbal language, in gestures, that reflect facts, events or memories.
After selecting, interpreting and acting out the testimonies, the residency gave rise to the play Cartons Pleins.
Cartons Pleins tells the story of the coming transformation of a neighbourhood, its false promises and hidden class struggles, through a cast of characters including residents, a rehousing agent, a town planner and an artist. By restoring the voices of the future evictees, the play attempts to keep alive what the rubble threatens to swallow up: the memory of an entire neighbourhood.Read more
