The Côte du Pal is an old cobbled road in the Hautes Cévennes d'Ardèche: it was used to cross the Cévennes slope, rising from 600 to 1,200 metres above sea level in 6 kilometres. In the Middle Ages, Montpezat was a roadside market town at the crossroads of three roads leading to the Velay, Gévaudan and Bas Vivarais regions, and it developed a number of craft activities related to tanning, cutlery and textiles. The road, which was last developed between 1680 and 1720, is made up of calades and supported by walls, some of which are monumental. It was listed as a historic monument in 2023.
The Côte du Pal is open to visitors all year round.
